Mood Board

To help with the development of my horror film trailer idea i decided to create a mood board. I decided to paint the background a wood picture, this showing where the setting of my film will be and the moon showing what time of day, the night, I also wanted to show what time of year I wanted to film, this being winter, I feel that the trees have a better horror effect without leaves. I have included the poster and scenes from various films which I see as being similar to what I want to create for my horror film trailer. These being The Ring, The Grudge, The Orphanage, The Omen, The Unborn, The Shining and The Amityville Horror, all of which contain children used in a horror context. Of these shots the shot I especially like is the one of the masked boy in the film the orphanage where he stands alone in a long shot, this echoes the feeling of loneliness to the audience and I think it has a powerful effect. I am going to look at how i can replicate this shot when filming my own horror trailer. Looking at the names of the films I have included I have noticed a pattern being that all of the names begin with the word ‘the’, because of this I have decided to follow the pattern and began my film name with ‘the’. I decided to place the pictures randomly on the mood board to mirror the unexpected nature of horror films, which leave audiences questioning throughout.

Narrative

My story begins at the house of a young girl which gets broken into by a man, who abducts the girl from her bed and murders her in a dark isolated wood, the setting of the film, she then wakes. The next stage of the story follows the night of an unsuspecting teenage girl on her journey home after a night out. With no way home she decides to walk the long journey, and when she gets to an opening in a wood, decides to take the shortcut. Her walk through the woods takes a bad turn. She can’t find her way out, she’s stuck, lost and alone or so she thinks. Her night of horror becomes a nightmare with the realisation that she’s being followed. By a pale, blonde haired, girl, the adbuctee who’s chosen her as her victim as shes seeks to inflict the pain she suffered.

My Concept

For my a2 media coursework I have decided to create a trailer for a horror film. I chose to create a horror film trailer as in recent years there has been an increase in the amount of British horror films being made and released and so wanting to appeal to the current film market; I thought that this would be a good genre to use. I will look at how I can film and edit my trailer so that is suites the style of the horror in the UK film industry, this will give my film a greater appeal to the UK film audience.
