What aspects will i use from my influences
Looking at different aspects of these trailers I have been given many different ideas which I can use within my film trailer and as I want to create a film which appeals to the mainstream horror audience I will stick close to the forms and conventions of these 3 films. The main form and convention I have decided to use is how to structure my trailer; I like the way in which The Ring and The Orphanage film trailers have been set out beginning slow gaining pace throughout building up to being fast in terms of the music and the editing and so I want to recreate this within my trailer. I am going to start my film differently from each of my influences, choosing to shock the audience with a banging sound as the first shot cuts to a black, the aim of this is to show the audience that my film is of a shocking nature and it will also act as a way to keep the attention of the audience throughout. I also plan to use a shot used within The Orphanage, this being the wide shot of the masked boy standing alone, I find this image to be very typical of a horror genre and something which i think will give my film a recognisable aspect. The first 40 seconds of my trailer will use the same technique as The Orphanage trailer and will follow the storyline of the film, this presenting to the audience how the story begins. this will change though as the trailer goes on as towards the end the content will change and I will start using random clips similarly used in The Ring and The Grudge trailers. This random effect will make the trailer seem quite unexplainable mirroring the nature of horror films. Like all the trailers have I also plan to finish on an iconic clip, I'm thinking of using a shot of a close-up of the scary girl, this acting as the shot which the audience will remember my film by. Within all 3 films the lighting is dark and I plan to keep myn the same, with this I'm again keeping to the forms and conventions to give it that horror appearance. In terms of the sound i plan to use white noise which is also used within the grudge trailer, I think this is quite a horror like sound and so I think it will work well within my trailer. The mis-en-scene is also something I need to consider and one of the main things I want to create is the feeling of innocence, this effect is used within The Orphanage's trailer and I'm going to put across this feeling with the use of a white night gown as my costume for the young girl, this is simple and child like.
